What is the Outdoor Mom Academy?
The Outdoor Mom Academy is a 6-week online course designed specifically for the outdoor mom. Rebecca (Hike Like a Woman), Susan (Mountain Mom and Tots) and Amelia (Tales of a Mountain Mama) developed the course for outdoor moms of all skill and experience levels. Whether you’ve just ventured out into the world with your little one for the first time, or you’re heading out for your zillionth camping trip with your tweens in tow, this course is for you. In fact, even dads, grandparents, and other adventurous caregivers are encouraged to sign up!
“As outdoor bloggers, we’re often asked for advice about everything from camping with a newborn to analyzing and assessing risk in the outdoors. We love questions like this, in fact so much so that we developed this course. We’ll be the first to admit that we don’t know everything but we have been able to mentor tens of thousands of Moms just like you.” ~ Rebecca, Susan & Amelia
The course runs from May 15th until June 25th. Each Monday morning throughout the session, you will receive a new training module via email. The training modules will include: videos, audio files, workbooks and PDF downloads focused on the topic of the week. And some incredible discussion will happen along the way on Facebook. For $60 you can access this incredible learning experience and more! (And if you register before the end of the day on May 7th, you save $20). Registration includes 2 free e-books (How To Hike When You’re Pregnant & How To Hike With Kids), an Outdoor Mom Academy patch for your pack or jacket, plus a chance to win some incredible prizes from the course sponsors. Use the code OMA-MAMANONTHETRAIL for $5 off when you register for the course!
The topics to be covered are as follows:
WEEK #1: MAY 15-21, 2017: Raising outdoor leaders. This class will be taught by Amelia, Rebecca & Susan and break down adventuring with children through each age group from babies to high school students.
WEEK #2: MAY 22-28, 2017: Identifying, reducing and managing risk in the outdoors. This class will be taught by Rebecca and discuss ways to keep kids safe but still allow for outdoor exploration and adventure.

Why did I sign up for the Outdoor Mom Academy?
Yes, I do happen to have an outdoor family blog, just like the ladies running this course, but I am in no way an expert. My little guy is only 17 months old which means that I have only 17 months of experience as an outdoor mom. I can use all the help I can get when it comes to planning, preparing, choosing gear, packing, assessing risk, and raising a kid to love the outdoors. I also happen to LOVE learning! It was one of the big reasons that I started the blog – to continue learning and to share what I learn while on a year-long maternity leave. I am passionate about the outdoors, about raising kids wild, and about helping others enjoy the outdoors with their families. The Outdoor Mom Academy sounds like a great way to do all of the above and more!
I am also really excited about becoming more involved with the outdoor family community. The Outdoor Mom Academy is going to create a whole new network of moms just like me that I can connect with. We’ll be chatting daily on Facebook: sharing experiences, advice, ups and downs. Most days, I can say with certainty that I am #RockingMotherhood in the outdoors, but I have epic fails too. I look forward to sharing my trials and triumphs with the Outdoor Mom Academy community during this first session and beyond.
